Wagner upset #13 Pittsburgh on the road, only their third non-conference home loss in their new building since it opened in 2005. It’s incredible how quickly the Hurleys rebuilt Wagner.
Former Wagner coach Mike Dean is a good friend of mine and an excellent coach, and he had a lot of success at Marquette for a number of years, and when our son Doug Gottlieb of ESPN signed at Oklahoma State, his other final choice was Marquette. Wagner was 6-25 his last year.
Ironically, Booby Hurley was a college superstar at Duke and a first round NBA draftee, whose career was derailed by a very serious car accident. Danny Hurley was an average player at Rutgers and yet he is the head coach and his older brother Bobby is his assistant. Their dad Bobby Hurley, Sr. is a recent Hall of Fame inductee as one of the top prep coaches of all time at St. Anthony HS in Jersey City, NJ.
