New BCS Being Hammered Out

The new BCS for the 2014 season and beyond is being worked out in Chicago this week, but few can agree on the way it should be and we may not know for a few weeks what the new format will be.

The new BCS will no doubt effect conference realignment, as several schools in the Big East and ACC conferences are concerenced that the new BCS format will virtually prohibit them from playing in a national title…even if they were to have an undefeated conference title season.

The dates everyone should be familiar with are June 20th when the commisioners come up with a proposal, and then on June 26th when the proposal is presented to the Presedential Oversight Committee.

The top propsals at this point may be the a four-team playoff, and the so called plus-one option. Of course we can expect that the bowls will be brought into the fray in some capacity.

Expect several proposals, instead of just one to be presented to the oversight committee, with a decision to be made around the first part of July. When all is said and done, however, we expect the two highest rated teams after the bowl season to play for the title…and obvously that is not good news for the ACC, Big East or Notre Dame.

We’ll talk about the new BCS and conference realignment on the Greg Swaim Radio Show.

    • I guess I am dense but I do not see why a plus one is obviously bad for the ACC and the Big East. As weak as those conferences are they would have to be undefeated but they play each other in the bowl so an undeated season is much easier in the ACC or Big East than the Big10,SEC,or Big12. I think it would be hard to take 2 one loss teams rather a 0 loss ACC team.
