Games of the Week Number Three
It’s already week three, and for some it was a black Saturday on week two, as Arkansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and Nebraska all went down. The later three played some decent teams on the road a couple of time zones away, so those weren’t major shockers, but the Razorbacks losing at home to Louisiana-Monroe was a big hit.
#20 Notre Dame travels to #10 Michigan State in our BigTime Game of the Week, but we’re going with Spartans to beat the Irish by 3 in a thriller.
In our second best matchup, #18 Florida travels to resurgent #23 Tennessee. This should be a good one, as this game pits two teams that have seen better days, and both believe they are close to gettin back to the glory days. We’ll go with the Vols in this one by 7, but only because it’s in Knoxville.
In our third best matchup, #2 USC travels north to take on #21 Stanford. We don’t think the Cardinals are nearly as good in the post Andrew Luck era as the pollsters do, and the Trojans will show that as they win by 28.
Arkansas hosts top-ranked Alabama this Saturday in
Fayetteville, in what most thought could be an Arkansas win before the season started, but now most believe the Tide will win big. We do too, and have Saban’s team by 21.
#12 Ohio State can’t go anywhere post season, so every game is a bowl game for the Buckeyes, and facing a Pac 12 team like Cal, they’ll consider it their Rose Bowl, beating the Bears by 24.
# 3 LSU can beat Idaho as bad as they want, but Les Miles will take pity on the Vandals, and will only beat them by 37.
Florida Atlantic travels to #7 Georgia, and the Bulldogs are feeling very good about last Saturday nights win at Mizzou. They’ll celebrate with a 24 point pasting of FAU.
#8 South Carolina didn’t look like a world beater a over a week ago against Vanderbilt, but they’ll have a much easier opponent with UAB and will roll by 34.
#9 West Virginia will put up huge numbers over James Madison, as Heisman candidate Geno Smith and the Mountaineers beat up on JMU by 52.
No one, including Mack Brown, knows if #14 Texas is for real. But we should know a little bit more about the Longhorns as they travel down to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. Wouldn’t shock us if the Horns lay an egg, but they have a lot more talent than the Rebels, so we’ll go with Texas by 12.
#15 Kansas State will be playing North Texas, but will have their minds on the Sooners the following week, so will sleepwalk through this one with a 26 point win in Manhattan.
#17 Michigan is still trying to get the taste out of their mouth from two weeks ago and their humiliating defeat in Dallas against Bama. They’ll run wild over UMass by 34.
#19 Louisville is also hearing talk of a possible Big 12 invite, and nothing would look better than beating up on an ACC opponent. We expect them to do just that with an 18 point win over North Carolina.
Houston, a team that was good the last several years, but now is horrible, travels to the Rose Bowl to play #22 UCLA. The Bruins, fresh of an upset win over Nebraska last Saturday at home, are looking relevant again and they’ll beat the Cougars by 26.
