Week Two College Football Predictions
Several preseason Top 25 teams didn’t look as good as most thought they would (see Michigan, Oklahoma and Virgina Tech), but we begin again with week two, as the old adage goes that teams make their biggest improvements of the season from week one to week two.
Starting Thursday, Pittsburgh travels to Cincinnati for the last time, as the Panthers are leaving the Big East after this season and moving on to the ACC. Neither team is knocking on anyone’s Top 25 door, and Pitt lost last weekend to Youngstown State, so we’ll go with the Bearcats by 14, as they open their season.
On Friday night Utah travels to Utah State, and we expect the Utes to beat the Aggies, but it may be closer than some think, as UU wins by a field goal.
Nebraska traveling to the Rose Bowl to play resurgent UCLA may be an interesting one, and the Huskers should win, but this could be an upset special worth watching…and there aren’t many this week. We’ll stay with Bo Pellini’s squad by a touchdown or more.
One upset that won’t be an upset is in Missouri’s first SEC game, as they host Georgia. The Tigers will win this one by at least a touchdown at home, and start off things right in their new conference.
One that some are predicting as an upset is Arizona beating Oklahoma State in Tucson, but the Wildcats don’t have nearly the depth on defense to shut down (or even slow down) the Cowboys high-powered offense, and OSU should win this one going away…Pokes by 21.
Miami travels to Kansas State, and the Wildcats should win this one by 10 or more, with Collin Klein running wild over the U.
The upset of the week will be Western Kentucky over #1 Alabama. Just kidding, the Tide will roll by as many as they want to, and will have to try hard not to score 70 or more.
#2 USC travels across the country to Syracuse, but the woeful Orange were beaten at home by Northwestern last week, so this will be another yawner halfway through the second quarter. Trojans by 31.
We’ll talk about these games and others all week on the Greg Swaim Radio Show. And you can talk about it with us, and others, at the BigTime Sports Forums.
